By joining our waitlist, you agree that Books with Bec & Jane may collect and use your name and email to contact you about membership openings, updates, and related news.
We store your details securely in ActiveCampaign and will never share them without your consent. You can unsubscribe or request removal at any time using the link in our emails or by contacting us at hello@birdsofafeather.com.au or hello@kissandtellbookclub.com

ADDITIONAL TERMS OF SERVICE FOR OUR MEMBERSHIPS
These Additional Terms of Service (“Terms”) apply to all members, or all potential members of Books with Bec and Jane [ABN 29652187687] and its current and future subsidiary book clubs (“we, us, our”). These Terms together with any other terms and conditions and policies we publish or link to on our website and services form an Agreement with us (“Agreement”). “You” could be any member of ours and any parent or legal guardian of any member of ours.
ONLINE MEMBERSHIP WE WILL PROVIDE
By purchasing our STANDARD Membership Services, you are provided access to our member portal, monthly recorded book chats, private podcast and regular member emails. We provide various materials during the Membership Services, including videos, reading notes and photographs. By purchasing our PREMIUM Membership Services, you are entitled to all features of the Standard membership and are also provided invitation-only access to monthly live Zoom book chats.
Please note: Our book club memberships do NOT include books. An option to add a Birds of a Feather book box subscription from our partners at Avid Reader will be offered after checkout. Any issues with your book delivery should be directed to books@avidreader.com.au
BEFORE PURCHASE
Things you must do before purchasing a Membership
You must:
- be 18 years or older to purchase and participate in our adult memberships (Birds of a Feather, Kiss & Tell Book Club), unless otherwise stated with parental consent;
- Participants aged 15–17 years may join Birds of a Feather and Kiss & Tell Book Club with the express permission of a parent or legal guardian. By permitting a minor to participate, the parent or guardian acknowledges and accepts that the content discussed may include mature themes comparable to those found in MA15+ rated films, including but not limited to adult relationships, sexuality, and other mature subject matter. Language used at times may be explicit in nature. The parent or guardian accepts full responsibility for the minor’s participation, and we do not accept responsibility for any distress, offence, or impact arising from exposure to such content.
- for participation in our children's memberships, you must have parental consent;
- provide complete and accurate information to us, including account information, and promptly inform us of any updates to your information; and
- ensure you have adequate technology set up and internet access to make use of the Membership. We use a membership portal and Zoom.
Acknowledgements you make when purchasing on our website
You acknowledge and agree that:
- we cannot take into account your personal situation or your personal goals or objectives when providing our Membership Services;
- some Books can be very subjective, and what may be pleasing to some may not for others. Whilst we will try to work and accommodate members, we cannot always please everyone; and
- the Membership Services are voluntary and you join at your sole risk. You are responsible at all times for your safety and wellbeing.
- the books selected for The Midnight Readers have mature themes and are suitable for readers aged 14+. By joining The Midnight Readers you agree that your child has permission to read books that may contain explicit language, sexual references, violence and/or references to self-harm or suicide.
You further acknowledge and agree that there may be:
- occasional errors or omissions in the Membership Services descriptions, prices, availability and promotions;
- some Membership Services with limited places or that are limited to certain regions or groups of people; and
- technical problems downloading Materials, and there are inherent risks associated with downloading digital products and using online software.
Except as required by law, we cannot guarantee the accuracy of the information, or the availability of the Membership Services.
You also acknowledge that we may make recommendations of suppliers for various products or services during your Membership. Any recommendations are only recommendations, and if you purchase from the supplier that is a contract between you and the supplier, and we are not involved. Therefore, you must direct any product or service concerns, requests for refunds or other feedback to the relevant supplier.
Member Wellbeing and Community Conduct
Book club membership does not provide mental health, therapeutic, or counselling services. Participation in the membership is not a substitute for professional medical, psychological, or mental health support.
Members are responsible for their own wellbeing and participation in the community. If at any time you feel that participation is not supportive of your wellbeing, we encourage you to seek appropriate professional assistance.
All members agree to engage respectfully and kindly with other participants and with our team. We reserve the right to moderate discussions and, where necessary, suspend or terminate membership if a member’s behaviour is harmful, disruptive, or creates an unsafe or unwelcoming environment for others.
This may include removal from associated community spaces, including but not limited to our Facebook groups or other online platforms connected to the Membership.
Fees & Payments
The Membership Fee is automatically deducted from your nominated payment method upon purchase.
For payment plans, the first instalment is deducted immediately upon purchase, with subsequent payments deducted monthly.
By purchasing a Membership, you authorise us to:
- deduct the Membership Fee and any other accrued or owing fees from your debit or credit card; and
- deduct any applicable currency conversion fees or financial institution charges where relevant.
You must ensure that sufficient funds are available in your nominated account to meet any scheduled payments. Where payment is declined or not received, you authorise us to reattempt payment and debit any outstanding amounts without further notice.
Membership Period
Birds of a Feather Memberships (Standard, Foundation & Premium):
Membership is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase, unless otherwise specified. Your access begins on the date you sign up and continues for 12 consecutive months.
Deferred Commencement of Membership
Where a Membership is purchased in advance for a future Membership Period (for example, joining in November or December for a Membership commencing on 1 January), access to Membership Services will commence on the designated start date, and not on the date of purchase.
No access to Membership content, services, or benefits will be provided prior to the commencement date.
The Membership Period will run from the designated start date and continue for the full applicable term (e.g. 12 months), regardless of the original purchase date.
Kiss & Tell Book Club Membership (2026):
The Kiss & Tell Book Club is a fixed-term Membership of up to 8 months, or a shorter prorated period where specified at the time of purchase. Access begins on the date of purchase or the specified start date (where applicable) and will automatically expire at the end of the applicable Membership Period. This Membership does not extend beyond the stated term, regardless of the purchase date
Auto-Renewals
- STANDARD, FOUNDATION & PREMIUM EARLY BIRD memberships are automatically renewed 12 months from the date of purchase, unless cancelled prior to the renewal date.
- You may cancel your subscription at any time via our payment provider:

- Kiss & Tell Book Club memberships are one-off payments and do not auto-renew.
- GIFT MEMBERSHIPS are one-off purchases and are not auto-renewed.
Coupons & Promotions
Any promotional codes or special offer coupons must be applied at the time of purchase. They cannot be applied retrospectively.
Cancellations & Refunds
All Membership Services are provided for the full duration of the Membership Period.
- Birds of a Feather memberships are sold as a 12-month commitment.
- Kiss & Tell Book Club memberships are sold as a fixed 8-month program.
All payments are non-refundable, and we do not provide refunds, credits, or transfers for:
- change of mind
- partial use
- unused time remaining in a membership
If your membership includes auto-renewal, you may cancel at any time prior to your renewal date.
Please note:
- Once a renewal payment has been processed, the Membership Fee for the next term will be charged in full.
- You can check your renewal date via our secure payment portal.
AFTER PURCHASE
Things you must do after purchasing our Membership Services
You must:
- maintain the confidentiality of your login and password for your account;
- not allow other people to use the Materials or your account;
- contact the Book Supplier directly if you have any difficulty with the delivery or condition of your Books;
- contact us by email at if you have any difficulty downloading any Materials;
- not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, re-sell or exploit the or Materials in any way;
- contact us by email at if you have any issues with the Membership Services and require a refund;
- seek our prior written consent before any publication of information about us; and
- in the case of a dispute keep all communications confidential.
Posting rules
You must not post any of the following, which is determined at our discretion:
- any inappropriate or offensive, threatening or abusive content;
- any immoral content, including but not limited to, anything pornographic or obscene;
- any illegal content, including any content which is defamatory;
- anything that breaches the rights of any third party, including but not limited to, any intellectual property rights of a third party such as copyright, or trademark, or a third party’s privacy; or
- any content that impersonates any other person or misleads us or third parties as to the origin of your posts.
You are responsible for all your posts and their accuracy, completeness and timeliness. We are not responsible for any of your posts or any third party posts. Where posts do not comply with our rules, or are otherwise objectionable we may, but do not have any obligation to, edit or remove the content. By making posts in our community, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable licence to use the posts for any purpose, and you waive any Moral Rights in those posts.
Acknowledgement you make in relation to emergencies and crisis situations
In some circumstances we may need to suspend or even terminate a group session where a participant is experiencing a crisis. Where we see any risk to a participant’s safety we will immediately terminate the session. In this event, we will reschedule the groups session to another convenient time. In the event that you experience a crisis during your Membership or during a session, we will refer you to appropriate service and you agree to seek assistance immediately.
Acknowledgement you make in relation to live online events
We conduct various events as part of your Membership/Subscription. We reserve the right to exclude you from any event if you become disruptive or disrespectful to other participants during any of our live online events. You acknowledge and agree that we may make recordings of events that you participate in. These recordings may be audio, video or still photographs, and may be used by us for marketing or information purposes. Your participation in the events is subject to you granting us the copyright in all recordings to use, reuse and publish the recordings where you may be depicted or included, in whole or in part, in composite or distorted in character or form, without restriction as to changes from time to time, in any media now or developed in future. You waive all rights to approve of the finished recordings. For parents, please be aware that your child may be recorded (voice and video) during our online meetings and these recordings are then made available to members via our online portal and podcasts. If you do not wish your child to be recorded, please ensure the video and microphone is turned off during the meeting and your Zoom username is incognito or not visible.
Things we’d love you to do after purchasing your Membership
We’d love you to provide us with any photos, videos, testimonials, and/or case studies so we can use them for marketing and information purposes, publications, exhibitions and professional awards across all print or digital mediums, including our social media channels.
However, please note that by providing us with photos, videos, testimonials and/or case studies you assign copyright ownership to us. This includes all copyright and any other rights under the Copyright Act 1968 and the right of reproduction either wholly or in part. If you provide content but subsequently want to revoke permission to use it, it is your responsibility to notify us immediately at hello@rebelreaders.com.au
Access to Membership content, materials, and recordings is provided only for the duration of your active Membership Period. We do not guarantee ongoing access after your Membership expires.
OTHER MATTERS YOU SHOULD BE AWARE OF
We may change information on our website
Except as required by law, we may at any time, and without prior notice to you:
- change and update information including availability and promotions;
- change prices or descriptions of our Membership Services; or
- discontinue any Membership Services.
We comply with the Australian Consumer Law
You are entitled to various consumer guarantees, rights, and remedies under the Australian Consumer Law including, but not limited to, consumer guarantees that the Membership Services are delivered with due care and skill and in a reasonable time. Except as required by law we do not warrant the quality of the Membership Services or warrant that they will meet your expectations. We do not provide refunds for changes of mind, where you fail to provide us with adequate information, where you can no longer benefit from the Membership Services or where you fail to comply with our instructions.
If we need to cancel the Membership Services, we will provide a refund
Except as required by law, all payments are non-transferable and non-refundable. On occasion we may cancel the Membership Services where we are no longer able to provide them. In these or similar circumstances where you have paid in advance, we will provide you with a refund. We will notify you as soon as possible of any changes to the Membership Services. We do not provide refunds except as required under the Australian Consumer Law.
We can refuse to serve you and provide Membership Services at any time
We may refuse, suspend or terminate Membership Services acting reasonably, including where you breach this Agreement, engage in harmful or disruptive behaviour, or where continued participation would negatively impact the safety, integrity or enjoyment of the community.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
All the Intellectual Property Rights in our Materials are owned by or licensed by us. We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, royalty-free, revocable licence for to use our Materials for your personal use only. This licence to use our Materials in relation to the Membership Services is for the duration of your Membership only. In particular, you must not use our Materials for any commercial purposes without our prior written consent which is given or withheld at our sole discretion. Any use beyond your sole personal use will be conditional on the payment of license fees, and acknowledgement of our moral rights under the Copyright Act 1968 where applicable. RELIANCE ON OUR INFORMATION DISCLAIMER
Whilst we exercise due care in ensuring the accuracy of information provided to you during your Membership, sometimes it may not be accurate. There may be typographical errors, or it may be based on an opinion of the author that is not widely held. Occasionally the information may be historical information, and based on primary sources of material, contemporary thinking, regulations or laws which existed at the time of publication, and these will change from time to time. Occasionally the information may not be complete. For that reason, we cannot guarantee that the information is accurate, complete or current.
LIABILITY AND INDEMNITY
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any Loss or Damage arising from your use of our website and services or any Membership Services, including, but not limited to, any errors or omissions, price changes or discontinued Membership Services, your reliance on any of our information, any choice of Books, any non-delivery or damaged Books, any visitor posts and content, any links to third party websites, any interruptions, any changes, suspension or termination of our website and services.
To the extent which we are entitled to do so, our liability under the Australian Consumer Law will be limited, at our option to:
- the replacement of the Membership Services or the supply of an equivalent services; or
- the payment of acquiring an equivalent Membership.
In any case, our liability to you will not exceed the amount paid by you to us.
You agree to indemnify us, and to keep us indemnified from any Claim arising out of or in connection with your breach of this Agreement, including, but not limited to where you provide incorrect information, any breach of the group session and posting rules, any further contact with any members, and any breach of our Intellectual Property Rights.
IF THERE IS A DISPUTE
In the event of any dispute that cannot be resolved, both parties agree to obtain an independent professional arbitrator/dispute resolution specialist to make a determination on the dispute and each party agrees to pay their own costs.
OTHER
This Agreement is to be construed in accordance with the laws of QLD, Australia, and you and we submit to the jurisdiction of the courts of QLD, Australia. This is the entire agreement between you and us, and supersedes any prior agreements, proposals and communications whether oral or written, between you and us. In the event of an inconsistency between the terms in this document, and other terms and conditions on our website, these terms prevail. No other term is to be included in this Agreement except where it is required to be included by law. The failure by us to exercise any right, or enforce any provision in this Agreement does not waive the future operation of that right or provision. In the event that a provision in this Agreement is not enforceable, such provision shall be severed from this Agreement to the extent permitted by law, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect. All obligations and liabilities in these Agreement survive termination of this Agreement.
External Groups & In-Person Meetups

Unofficial Groups / Offshoots
You acknowledge that we do not control, sponsor, moderate, monitor or endorse any Facebook groups, sub-groups, “offshoot” groups, other social media or community groups, or any in-person gatherings or meet-ups arranged by members (collectively “External Groups & Meetups”). These are independent from our services and are not under our ownership or direct management. -
No Liability or Responsibility
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all liability, responsibility or obligation for the content, behavior, moderation, conduct or organisation of any External Groups & Meetups, including but not limited to:-
posts, comments, images, communications or behaviour within such groups or meetups;

adherence (or non-adherence) to rules, policies, or standards of conduct;

misinformation, defamation, harassment, or any harmful content or behaviour;
-
any injury, damage, loss, or incident occurring at, during, or as a result of an in-person meetup;

any interactions you have (or claims arising) with other members or administrators of such groups or meetups.

Your Participation is at Your Own Risk
Your decision to join, engage with, or participate in any External Group or Meetup is entirely voluntary. You assume all risks associated with such participation, including exposure to harmful content, offensive conduct, physical injury, illness, or unsafe conditions. -
No Endorsement / Affiliation
Unless expressly stated in writing by us, you should not assume any affiliation, partnership, sponsorship or endorsement between us and any External Group or Meetup. Any use of our name, trademarks or branding in connection with such groups or gatherings is unauthorized and should not be construed as our approval. -
Reporting / Complaints
If you become aware of unlawful, unsafe, or inappropriate content, conduct, or circumstances within an External Group or Meetup, you may report it to the relevant platform, organiser, or authority. You may also notify us, but we shall have no obligation to act on or moderate content or conduct in External Groups & Meetups. -
Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless us, our officers, employees and agents from any claim, liability, damage, cost or expense (including legal costs) arising from your involvement in, or interactions with, External Groups & Meetups.
DEFINITIONS
Australian Consumer Law means Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010.
Agreement means these terms, and the general website terms and conditions and all other terms and conditions and policies published or linked to on our website.
Book Supplier means Avid Reader Book Store, and any other book supplier who we may engage.
Claim means any claim, under statute, tort, contract or negligence, any demand, award or costs.
Intellectual Property Rights means all copyright, trademarks, design rights, patents, trade secrets and confidential information whether registered or unregistered.
Loss or Damage means any direct, indirect, incidental, punitive, special, or consequential loss or damages of any kind, including but not limited to, any loss of profits, revenue, savings, loss of data, loss of enjoyment, virus to systems, personal injury, death, property damage and legal costs.
Materials means any of our materials, and includes any videos or worksheets, and any other materials or documents provided to you during your membership.
Membership Fee means the fee payable for your selected Membership, as advertised on our website at the time of purchase, which may vary depending on the Membership type, duration, and payment plan selected.
Membership Period means the period of access applicable to your Membership, as specified at the time of purchase.
For Birds of a Feather Memberships, this is 12 months from the date of purchase, unless a deferred commencement date applies.
For fixed-term programs (such as the Kiss & Tell Book Club), the Membership Period is the specified duration of the program.
Membership Services means the Rebel Readers Alliance, The Midnight Readers, The Wild Readers, Birds of a Feather Book Club, Kiss & Tell Book Club and includes all Materials.
Minimum Term means the minimum term of your Membership before cancellation takes effect. You may cancel your Membership at any time prior to your renewal date. Once the renewal date has passed, the Membership Fee for the next Membership Period will be charged in full.
We, us, or our means Starseed Society Pty Ltd t/as Books with Bec & Jane [ABN 29652187687], its current and future subsidiary book clubs and includes any of our directors, officers, employees, agents, partners and contractors.
Website and services mean rebelreaders.com.au, and everything available on this website including, but not limited to, all Membership Services.
We acknowledge the privilege of living and working on Aboriginal land where sovereignty has never been ceded. We pay our deepest respect to past and present Traditional Custodians and Elders past, present and emerging.
We love stories. We love reading, telling and hearing stories because they connect us whilst bringing meaning and richness to our lives.
